Wednesday - June 24th - Bike to Work Day

Hey All,

Great showing last week. Lets do it again this weeks. Our route will be Roosevelt Park to the St. Vrain Greenway to the Lefthand Greenway to Sunset Street and north to the Dales Brewery at Pike and Sunset. This ride will be great as most of it will be on trails not roads.

Next week we'll return to Old Town and the usual route. If you've been on any of the previous rides you know how much fun we're having this year. If you haven't had time, make time. We're having a lot of fun.

Catch you later and stay cool.

Bike Night Tonight

So tonight was a great night for Bike Night and I think for the riders. The weather was a little sketch but worked out. We made it to Snowy Mountain Creamery just in time (before the hail and rain). We had double helpings of ice cream and laughs.

Hope to see you out there next week, June 24, (Bike to Work Day!) Check DRCOG.org for breakfast stops in Longmont. You can catch me at the City of Longmont around 6:45A for free Pancakes.

Season Begins!

So the first summer movies are hitting the big screens, the trees and flowers are blooming and Old Town is coming to life after a long winter. It seems like summer is upon us. So it must be time for Bike Night. Yep, that's right, Bike Night is back for another season of Wednesday night cruiser fun. Bring your fat tire, or your daily ride and meet us on May 27th, at 6:30 PM at Roosevelt Park.

We'll be hitting the pavement and having some fun, too. Any questions? Just post them here.

2009 Season

Well it's the middle of February and it is time to start thinking about spring. Right? I know our snowiest month is ahead but it's always fun to start thinking about spring. Trees, greenery, the mountains, the plains, and cruiser bikes.

Lastnight I started thinking about our 2009 season and recapped 2008 in my mind. 2008 was a fine cruiser year. We had great participation and I even got some assistance leading the ride. That was great. So now I'm thinking about 2009 and wanted to turn it over to the group to come up with ideas for rides. There are some new destinations open and I think folks enjoyed cruising the greenway from time to time.

So post some ideas and lets see what we can come up with.

Thx.

Oskar Blues and the Silo

Well, I hope you're not tuning in for late breaking news, but if you are, Bike Night will have a new destination this year. I was out doing some recon along the Greenway this week thanks to the almost 70 degree days. Anyway, Oskar Blues will be opening at the old silo this spring. That means we will be doing atleast a couple rides from Old Town to Oskars. Being that Oskars will be at the intersection of Hover and Ken Pratt Blvd. I wanted to see if there was a reasonably safe way to get there. My friends, there is. Left Hand Greenway/trail connects to a concrete paved sidewalk/trail at Hover. We travel along the sidewalk north until we reach Pike then cross over to the west side.

Good times!

Until next time; Have it good.

Celebs on Bikes

Hey there & Happy Holidays,

I caught this link from my cousin. It's pretty cool. I guess celebs ride bikes too. Looks like most of them are rockin' the Electras. Cool.

Enjoy.

HALLOWEEN!

Well, All Hallows Eve is approaching. So it's time to bust out the costumes, hit up Planet ARES or your favorite thrift store to find that one of a kind costume. This year's theme - yep - there will be a theme - Things that go BUMP, in the night.

There it is it's out there use your imagination.

The ride: Saturday October 25th, 2008, 4pm. This is the same day as the Longmont Halloween Parade. I believe the parade is in the morning, so that means the kids get to wear their costumes all day..... WOohoo.

We'll meet at Roosevelt Park, ride around Old Town then drop down to the greenway, to the Left Hand Brewery. Then we'll ride east to Lefthand a bit. Then Martin street back to Old Town.

Of course the route may change, as everyone knows, things always change. This year - change is more than a slogan. And, for anyone who's playin' a drinkin' game - Maverick. I love Tina Fey. Heck, I'll throw this out there too. Anyone (man or woman) who comes to the ride dressed as Tina Fey dressed as Sarah Palin gets a six pack of Dales. Fer sure. Or how bout, maybe anyone dressed as Tina Fey, dressed as Sara Palin, riding a Maverick that would be pretty good too.

Later, gators.

Last Night

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, all.

First I need to send a big shout out to Kelly Sanseverino for helping make the 5th year of Bike Night so successful. Kelly volunteered in February long before the snow melted to help lead rides. I cannot thank her enough.

Second to all of Longmont's Bike Shops. Blue Sky Bikes - TJ thanks for your undying support, and to Pete at Acme bikes likewise. Pete sends folks out the door with info on BIke Night. I appreciate that. Buzz at High Gear thank you for your support too. Thanks also to Bike N' Hike for posting the big ol poster and letting your customers know about Bike Night.

This year we had a new sponsor for the last ride. Oskar Blues donated two flats of beer. Old Chub and the local fav Dales Pale Ale. IF you haven't tried them you owe it to yourself to go get some. Dales supports the local bike scene in a big way, check out their blog at www.oskarbluesbrewsbikes.blogspot.com.

Finally the last word on our 5th season. When I was a neighborhood organizer in Minneapolis my mentor told me that 90% of people are out for themselves and 10% of people think about everyone else before themselves. These are the folks who will do whatever needs to be done whenever its needed. I'm convinced through Bike Night I've gotten to know that 10% of Longmont. The folks who take part in Bike Night are some of the nicest, most personable and interesting people I've met. We've had folks who were line chefs in our local restaurants, to executives, to new parents, to boomer retirees who were finally able to get rid of their kids.

So if you want to meet some interesting folks and make great friends. Be sure to visit your local bike shop next spring, visit this blog, and you will find out when we'll start again.

In the meantime I'm planning a Halloween ride that is tentatively set for October 25th. Keep checking back for more information. And check your local bike shop for posters!

I also update a Facebook Page and have made a photo album of Bike Night. Check it out by following this link.

Tomorrow will be epic fun!

Tomorrow night (September 3rd) we will bring the 5th year of Bike Night to a close! So why not go out with a BBQ! We will meet at the usual time - 6:30 PM Roosevelt Park do a modified cruise ending at the Kragerud (Krag - rude) homestead for Hamburgers, Hotdogs, a few hotdishes and beverages. If you're arriving late you will find us at 615 Lincoln Street.

Dale's showed they are all about the biking lifestyle today. They stepped up and donated a couple flats of Dale's Pale Ale so we'll be sippin' the good stuff. If beer isn't your thing we'll have lots of bottled water and 100% Juice, for the kiddos. We've also got schwag from our local bike shops that we'll be giving away! (Hence - schwag).

This event may not be a lot of things but it will be fun and a nice end to a great, great year. I believe this could be the best year yet!

If you can't join us tomorrow night, please put a tentative circle around October 25th on your calendar! We will do our annual Halloween ride. Stay tuned to the blog for details. I'm cookin' up something good.

Well, until tomorrow. I better turn in before the train whistles start blowing..... damn trains.

You can check out Dale's and a nice plug for Longmont Bike NIght at www.oskarbluesbrewsbikes.blogspot.com. Thanks CHAD!

The Last Bike Night - September 3rd, 2008

We had a great night tonight. Folks had lots of fun, and there was even a little single track and a whole lot of urban exploring. We found a new route that was pretty fun. We went from Roosevelt Park to Snowy Mountain Creamery at 15th & Main via the Kensington Greenway, a short section of single track and over on 15th.

Much fun was had by all.

I have to apologize if anyone wakes up to a flat tomorrow. The offroad section along the Mountain View Cemetary had goatheads. Sorry. I had a flat tonight. Again, sory.

September 3rd will be the last bike night for 2008. This has been a great 5th season for Bike Night. Our last ride will have shwag and a BBQ at my place at 615 Lincoln Street. Should be fun and be sure to pass the word! Hot Dogs all around. Details will be firmed up and announced on the 27th.

Later,
Ryan

Lookin' Good for Wednesday!

Wednesday is looking good - highs near 88. Kelly mentioned folks took to the Greenway and Lefthand Brewery, while the other half went on to ride Martin Street. Sounds like everyone had a good time. I'm looking forward to making it to the ride this week. See you then. Bring ideas for the ride.

Thanks, Kelly for leading!
